Wednesday, October 05, 2011Definition of a DouchebagSo. Yesterday we had sexual harassment training at work. (Watch out fellow employees, Zeekie knows exactly how its done now! :snort: As if I didn't already, having been sexually harassed for years at work until I finally spoke up... and unintentionally got the guy fired. BUT that's another story.) All kidding aside, it was quite an eye opener. My jaw drops at some of the still clueless people out there in the work force. Okay, I'm gonna set aside the woman who basically blamed other women for stirring up trouble on purpose for her man. (Puh-Lease, she picked sexually harassing tools for lovers AND husbands, not once but twice- C'mon Luv, where's the sisterhood?) No- the strongest evidence? I didn’t even know his name at the time, (believe me I do now!), but I *think* he was trying to make the following point: Sexual harassment toward MEN can be women who dress proactively since men are more visually stimulated. But. I'm being merciful because he actually said: "Isn't a woman who dresses proactively asking for it?" Of course the lady leading the discussion told him that is a false statement. But she only got to say that after I, unable to contain myself, responded, “so how do you draw the line at that- every man is different. How am I to know what's provocative to every man in the plant? What do you want us all to wear burqas?”. Another more diplomatic female co-worker said that she can see his point in that there are some forms of dress that can be considered inappropriate for the work place, but that we do have a dress code for that. And a few other people who weren’t looking down at their papers trying to ignore the elephant in the room after he dropped the bomb, did try to set him straight. (Like someone mentioned the fact that that’s like saying its ok to rape a hooker because of the way she dresses and another guy said something to the effect that because you see a woman in a bikini in the beach- does that mean she’s asking for it and its ok to attack her then?) But still, the guy was arrogant from the get go making it obvious he wasn’t joking about the “asking for it” comment. That my friends is the definition of a douchebag. Anyway I’m still a bit riled about that guy as you can see… Labels: Dear Diary, Rants
