Wednesday, January 04, 2012Movie Review: One DayOne Day Spoiler Free until I say so at the end- altho I would love to unspoiler it for all of you because If I told you the scene that truly pissed me off it would "spoil" it for you, although it does spoil the movie anyway, imo. Stupid ass movie. Oh no this wasn’t boring- maddening- but not boring. In fact, I liked the story and idea of them reconnecting every yr on that day (even though it's been done before, altho it was so long ago none of the target audience would know it. Same Time, Next Year). I often smiled at their relationship. No, it wouldn't have irked me as much if it was just boring. My problem? They get you all emotionally invested, then cheat you out of the payoff- several times- and one in such a major way, it literally made scream, "WTF?!?" (Frickin Men. Yes, men, because it was a man who wrote it. Just sayin.) Take for example this one scene that I, and any other female, would have considered pivotal to the relationship we saw unfolding before our eyes- but do we see it? NO. They reference it later. UGH. Synopsis: Guy/Girl romance- but definitely NOT romantic comedy so dont come in expecting that and you'll probably be better off then me. First of all-because it's the key to their relationship- they never really hook-up at the beginning of their relationship- they almost do, but then don’t and they end up being best friends. She’s geeky and totally in love with him but he’s immature and a playboy so she knows she has to let the hope go for more than a best friend, because she knows she'll get hurt. NOW the spoiler part. (highlight to view): After much flirting with "we should because we're so good together but we cant because it might ruin our friendship"- He gets married she gets engaged- to other people- their relationships end. In a moment of weakness over the wreckage of their other relationships, apparently, they get together for a one night stand- WHICH WE DON’T SEE!! (THIS would be pivotal for a girl and important to their relationship- why oh why do we treat it as footnote??) A year later, we see him come to his senses, finally ready to commit to her and all jealous of the relationship she’s in- and just when you think SHE’S moving on and they've missed their time again... she comes running back. They get married, she’s having trouble getting pregnant. We see her out riding on her bike after a bit of a fight AND GETS HIT BY A BUS! WTF??? Hello??? Another movie riff?? Angel movie with Nick Cage and Meg Ryan anyone??? He’s devastated but moves one with life after a truly sweet talk with his Dad. He takes his daughter from the failed marriage (not even HERS) to a spot she took him too on their first day together. And the movie ends. ARRRRGHGGHHHHHHHHHHH! Stupid ASS Movie.
